Affiliate and independence policy

llmnet.nl earns money. From consulting, from referrals, and in time from listings. That is not a problem as long as you know exactly how it works — which is why it is on this page rather than buried in the footer.

We call ourselves editorially independent, not "neutral". Neutral would suggest we have no commercial ties at all, and that is not true. Independent is a promise about our behaviour: our conclusion does not depend on who pays us. That promise is more concrete, and you can hold us to it.

The five rules

1. The conclusion comes first. We write the verdict — which model, which NAS, which service — before we check whether an affiliate programme exists. The order of work is the guarantee, not our good intentions.
2. Never paid placement. No party can buy a position in a comparison, ranking or recommendation. Sponsorship is possible, but only as a separate, clearly labelled block that sits outside the verdict.
3. Labels sit where the link sits. If we earn from a link, it says so right there — not only on this page. You never have to guess.
4. We also name what earns us nothing. If the best choice is a provider without a programme, we recommend it and state that we earn nothing from it. You can check that for yourself throughout our articles.
5. We publish the bad news too. A programme that disadvantages European users, that pays in credits rather than money, or that probably will not exist next year — we write it down. Even when it costs us revenue.

What we earn from, and what we don't

We do: advisory and consulting work; affiliate links to hardware, hosting and automation services; in time, labelled listings in the directory and newsletter sponsorship.

We don't: display advertising (a deliberate choice — it slows the site down and earns almost nothing at this scale); paid positions in rankings; content that exists only to carry a link.

Our programme register

We maintain a register of referral and affiliate programmes for developers. For each programme it lists the source URL of the official terms, the date we verified it, and — explicitly — what we could not verify. We do not copy commission rates from other websites: anything we could not read at the provider itself is published as unconfirmed.

This is necessary, because this particular information market is polluted. Rates circulate for programmes that do not exist, and recommendations circulate for programmes that closed months ago.

Facts are linked to a primary source wherever possible. Assumptions are marked as assumptions.
